ABSTRACT

Background: Health right is one of the fundamental human rights, respected in the many international human rights laws. Supportive and palliative care are considered as parts of the health system. Besides, comprehensive palliative care, has great importance in new health care systems. Based on some physicians’ ideas, it is crucial that patients be provided supportive care at the onset of some diseases such as cancer. On the other hand, palliative medicine is to decrease the negative impacts of cancer disease on patients’ lives. Spiritual care plays a key role in taking care of cancer patients at their end-of-life period, carrying a guarantee that the quality of care is high for these patients.

Material: In this study, first, nurses were trained about the effect of palliative medicine with islamic approach to decrease pain in cancer patients. Next, 25 trained nurses and 123 cancer patients admitted to the hospital were assessed in two steps. All data were obtained based on the standard questionnaire of World Health Organization Quality of Life-BREF (WHOQOL-BREF), which was filled out by cancer patients. Data were analyzed based on statistical tests using SPSS-26 software.

Results: According to the findings, the difference between pre- and post-test scores in overall score of health quality and its dimensions is significant ( . Moreover, the difference between mean values of positive and negative ranks in two steps reveals that this plan has the most significant effect on mental health, environmental health, and physical health, respectively.
